What is Chlorhexidine?
The active ingredient found in our formulas designed for gum health, such as our toothpaste and floss, is the lovely Chlorhexidine (klaw·hek·suh·deen). We understand this ingredient may sound foreign to you, and that’s why we want to educate our community a bit more on how it works and what it is! (Hint: it helps fight gum disease)
If you or anyone you know experience inflammation and redness with their gums, bad breath and/or notice bleeding when flossing or brushing their teeth, you’ll definitely want to learn a bit more about this ingredient.
While properly brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing once per day is an excellent and ideal routine for preventing gum disease, it might not be enough to necessarily reverse present damage to the mouth. Chlorhexidine can aid in reducing present symptoms and bring your gums back to their healthy, pink selves! So, what does chlorhexidine do?
- Reduces inflammation/redness and swelling of the gums
- Eliminates bacteria in the mouth which causes gum disease
- Reduces bleeding within the gums
- Aids in maintaining a healthy mouth
- Helps eliminate bad breath
Pretty awesome, right?
